i'm feeling a lot like this today

only my outbursts aren't going to be caused by tics, they'll be caused by me snapping into a sudden rage if one more stupid thing pisses me off.i'm really pissed and angry and annoyed and it's actually *very* unlike me.i'm usually super laid back.it is NOT my week.

i need a smoke and a shot,asap.

this guy is really pretty awesome-he's making lemonade with the lemons he was dealt.you definitely have to give the dude some props for having a great sense of humor.

childhood flashback expose

when i was a kid, maybe about the age of 10,i was at a sleepover at a friend's house and we saw this really weird video short on tv late late late at night-it was pretty strange and we weren't sure whether or not the humor was intentional.at the very least we knew we had never seen anything like it before and were pretty sure no one else had.for years "tater tomater" was our inside joke that we'd randomly say to each other and just giggle uncontrollably.

today i overheard someone say "tater tot" and it suddenly reminded me of this short.

i didn't expect it to be available online actually.
even more amazingly i had NO IDEA after all these years that the director of this strange childhood memory also directed the video for sonic youth's titanium expose

(side note-it's sort of strange to see thurston and kim make out)

try to understand, try try try to understand.....he's a magic man

it's really sad that i have actually had guys try to pick me up through magic tricks not once, not twice, but three times in my life.i think they must've watched this video.

and no,they definitely never got anywhere with me.

talkin bout my generation

this speaks volumes to me

11 nostalgic activities today's kids will never experience.

and at the same time it makes me feel kind of old.

some things a man may or may not know about women

from someone who couldn't possibly know very much about women at all.

shameless

i do like william h. macy but i'm sort of bothered they are remaking shameless into an american version.

and it's not really a showtime "original" series because it was originally a really really great uk bbc series.

they pretty much are taking the pilot word for word from the uk version.

i *really* loved the original and know it could NOT be topped-justin chatwin is pretty cute and all but come on he is no james mcavoy.but then again i was extremely resistant to watching the american version of the office and i eventually grew to love it so who knows maybe this will suprise me.

i won't be suprised when they try to remake spaced or skins next.

can't they come up with something new????

crispin hellion glover

for my birthday this year,my friend oshinko got me a ticket to see crispin hellion glover.we went to the performance on monday.he did a slideshow/performance art reading of some things he wrote, showed his latest released film that he directed and produced and then did a q&a session that went on for what felt like centuries.

i haven't wrapped my brain around the experience entirely yet but i can say with full confidence i was glad i did not have any nightmares that night.

here is a trailer for "it is fine. everything is fine!" the movie we endured.

what i will NOT be asking for from santa

creepiest toy ever?

wow, what a difference a couple years make

i am pretty sure the billy idol of generation x would punch the billy idol of the past few years in the face.

it's basically from punk rock to sort of still trying to do some tough guy rock and roll to pretty much straight up lounge singing.wow.
(and yeah i am thinkin there's been some plastic surgery along the way....)

i wish it was christmas today

i randomly found this cover of the jimmy fallon/horatio sans snl song by julian casablancas today.i wonder if nbc (oh wait,i guess i mean comcast now) gets the royalties...?

have a very scary christmas

i think i will be watching some non-traditional christmas movies this week...

the director of a christmas story, bob clark, started with a christmas film that would be considered quite a bit less than jolly.

that other team i like is playing that other team i hate in that other sport i really enjoy

go flyers!

phurther phillies suggestions

i am totally okay with them getting rid of blanton in this cliff lee deal.i have NEVER been a fan of blanton-in fact every time i have gone to a phillies game and learned that blanton was pitching that day i was a little disappointed (hey i can't be TOO disappointed,i was still getting to go to a phillies game afterall).every time there is contract talk, trade talk, whatever,he's the first person i suggest we give up.and even though he's a lefty can we get happ back in this trade somewhow? (still don't think he should have been traded in the first place...)

and i know a lot of people liked jayson werth here (he was allright but personally i'm not that sad to see him go) but how awesome would it be if we could steal cliff lee's former rangers teammate josh hamilton in his place?

i know i'm getting a little greedy now,but i'm just throwin it out there....a girl can dream right?

merry cliffmas!!!!

cliff lee will be back in philly again-it's a christmas miracle! YAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!

when we lost him it was pretty much universally regarded in philly as the worst trade ever-even though we were certainly happy to gain halladay...lee completely endeared our hearts to him in the one fantastic season he was here so it was completely heartbreaking to watch him go (remember that completely nonchalant behind the back catch during the world series???). but now we have BOTH!YES!!!!
AND OSWALT!AND HAMELS!

the fact that he chose philly despite being offered way more money from the yankees genuinely brings a tear to my eye.how can you not love the guy who could go anywhere he wants but isn't in it for the money?

in my usual groggy half asleep waking up this morning i look up to see on the news that the phillies signed lee again and i seriously thought i was just having a really awesome dream.

and so i dedicate this song to you mr. lee:

"Personality, I mean that's what counts, right? That's what keeps a relationship going through the years..."

"...Like heroin, I mean heroin's got a great fucking personality."

Sarah alerted me to this fantastic news-Danny Boyle is possibly making a sequel to trainspotting!!!!

If this happens I am sooooooo excited. I've read all of Irvine Welsh's books (well honestly I couldn't get through filth.i tried so many times...maybe someday i will try to revisit it)and Porno was a really good followup to trainspotting-with this one more on the focus of sickboy.rather than drugs it's a bit more about sex.

Trainspotting - James Bond from Daniel Kovacs on Vimeo.

if anyone could do it Danny Boyle could.I've loved his movies since trainspotting and all but I miss him getting back to his dirty Scottish roots (see shallow grave).

and i will always see anything with ewan mcgregor in it.

and yeah i will also use any excuse to throw iggy pop into my blog.

dead skeletons

TOTALLY diggin dead skeletons right now.

just not werth that much

so jayson werth is no longer a phightin.he signed with last place team the nationals for a 7 year 126 million dollar deal.he was a good player and helped us get to the world series but i mean 126 MILLION for 7 years-he will be 39 when his contract is up!

i'm glad the phils didn't waste that much money on him but i will definitely miss mocking his facial hair.

on a rather intoxicated evening a couple friends and i went so far as to write him a letter to get rid of the stupid landing strip he had on his chin.we actually sent it.not long after that he shaved his entire face and then grew the full beard.i'd like to think it was because of our efforts.and just like our letter proposed he had a better year statistically without the bikini wax on his chin.

so rip landing strip/grizzly man.2006-2010

if you were trying to come up with an idea for my birthday cake i've got a couple suggestions...

though if i'm gonna be honest i'd rather have the cover of raw power than lust for life on a cake....

i really just like the misfits one.whoever did that did a pretty amazing job.

goodye spectrum

so today they started tearing down the spectrum today.

I was trying to remember what I had been to at the Spectrum (often confusing what concerts I had seen there as opposed to the F.U. Center,Wachovia Center,etc,etc...) then I found a handy dandy website that listed every concert performed there.

So it turns out I had only been to 4 shows there.

NOV. 26, 1989 New Kids on the Block,Dino and Sweet Sensation

okay so this was my very first concert.go ahead and mock me all you want but you probably liked horrible crap when you were a kid too.hopefully, like me, you've overcome this early life obstacle.
i was given tickets as a gift for my 10th birthday. i went with my friend and her mom.instead of the sweet nkotb tshirt and giant pins i had planned to wear to the show i was forced to wear the equivalent of an easter or christmas dress (with a bow in my hair).at the concert my friend's mother would not let us stand up or scream. the opening act dino who had a one hit wonder with the song "i like it".

he had a mullet, looked about 45 (at least to this ten year old's eyes),had a beer gut and was shirtless wearing a leather vest.grossville.

with this atrocity being my very first concert it's no wonder at all i wound up really into punk rock in high school.

fast forward to my high school years....

MARCH 30, l997 Beck, Atari Teenage Riot and the Cardigans

this wasn't my second concert or anything,i had seen hundreds of shows between new kids on the block and beck, just not at the spectrum.
around this time i was completely obsessed with beck and wanted to have his babies.my aunt worked for some company that had some deal with ticketmaster and could get tickets before they went on sale.she called me up and asked if i wanted tickets to beck.i leapt at the opportunity.while on the phone with my aunt, sitting right next to me was my boyfriend at the time hearing at least half the conversation.he pipes in that we need to get a bunch of tickets so that friends could go too and we could all sit together.i wound up giving my aunt money for a ticket for myself,2 of my friends, and mark and about 13 of his friends. at 17 years old working a part time job this was no small chunk of change (i think tickets were about $30 each).my friends paid me back for their tickets immediately, the boyfriend said he would gather the money from his friends to pay me back. about two weeks before the concert i very suddenly stopped getting phone calls from the boyfriend, mind you this was right about the same time i had forked the tickets over to him to distribute to his friends.he was supposed to give me a ride to the concert and finally the day of the show i called him.i was pretty pissed but was honestly just looking to hitch the ride i was supposed to get when he told me that he wouldn't be able to get to the show in time so i had better just meet him there (easter happened to fall on the same day that year so dinner with family was unavoidable).so my friends and i take the el and subway to the show get to our seats and all of my boyfriend's friends are sitting around me.i inquire where he is and everyone goes pretty silent.okay whatevs.so i'm sitting enjoying atari teenage riot (whatever happened to them?)

(this is the song i would blast in my bedroom when i wanted to piss off my dad)

i loooooaaaaathed the cardigans.all the guys around me of course were in love with nina perrson.i found her annoying.

finally beck comes on.this was his era of "where it's at" and rhinestone cowboy suits, fake ship captain outfits and slick mod suits.i really have to say to this day he is and was an amazing entertainer.this was my first time seeing him (though i had tried getting tickets for his previous times in philly all to no avail).each beck concert after this one was a totally different experience.all great all just different.

(this isn't from the show i was at but it was from just a couple of months later)

at some point during the show my boyfriend's brother and one of his friends started telling me how much better i could do than him.at this point i'm not arguing that point with them at all and laughing along.eventually a confession is made "he's actually right over there in the other section making out with some girl he's also been seeing the past two weeks".i was livid.this jerk still owed me for about 6 tickets worth of money-they had all paid him and he pocketed it while telling me he didn't get it from them.i lost some money out of it but i cut my losses and decided i was better off never having to deal with him anymore.follow up to the story? this guy actually had the audacity to contact me online to ask me to go to a concert with him a couple weeks ago.oh yeah, i had a reeeeaaaaal good laugh at that one.

APRIL, 2005 Duran Duran

my duran duran tickets were another birthday gift(tickets went on sale months before the show around my actual birthday).duran duran had reunited and just put out a new album with a couple of pretty decent tracks.we had pretty good floor seats.at some point simon lebon invited some girl onstage and she took full advantage of the situation by shoving her tongue down his throat for a good 30 seconds or so.it was pretty funny.they actually sounded pretty great and it was a fun show.

during careless memories the giant projection screen behind them showed this.

MAY 10, 2008 The Cure

ahhhh....the cure.it was a long time coming for me to get to see them.my seats were great.i had a fun time and they were great, really great, but i have to admit i was slightly disappointed.the cure were actually TOO perfect. too tight as a band,it sounded EXACTLY like the albums.no variation at all.every chord played exactly as you know it.i don't know why but it just didn't feel as exciting and live as i had hoped.

so yeah, they're tearing down the spectrum for a new complex they're calling Philly Live! (and yes the exclamation point is actually in the name) which will supposedly be done by Spring of 2012.it's a little bittersweet but it'll be interesting to witness the change.i wonder what my first concert there will be...i can definitely tell you for sure it will NOT be me going to a new kids on the block reunion show.

and when you least expect it

sarah sent this to me today. i would totally go see this.

in case you were wondering in some small way

i started thinking about the tv show small wonder today.i can't remember why but it just popped into my head.

i wonder if i would still actually like it if i watched it now.it was definitely one of my faves as a kid.there were a lot of strange concepts in that show.the dad in the family worked for some kind of robotics company and made vicky the robot for some reason having to do with helping kids with disabilities so i don't understand why they needed to bring the robot home to pretend it was their adopted daughter so that it could acclimate to family life...a family life that didn't include any children with disabilities anyway (unless you count the son jamie's chipmunk cheeks a disability).but besides that, it's a robot.what's to acclimate???!!!

and despite the fact that the family sent her to school,it was a total secret that she was a robot.for starters, no one was supposed to notice she only owned one dress, or that she couldn't eat or drink til like at least the third season?

one of the other weird things was i always thought that instead of having a robot/caretaker relationship or even a brother/adopted sister relationship jamie and vicky seemed to have some kind of underlying sexual tension.yeah that's right i said it.kinda creepy.i thought his rejection of annoying neighbor harriet was more because he secretly pined for vicky than his disdain for harriet.

if that show were on the air today instead of being a robot people would probably have just assumed she was autistic or had asperger's syndrome.michael cera or jesse eisenberg could have been her love interest.

anyway, i got to wondering whatever happened to all of the actors on that show?part of me assumed they had all died of crack addiction in natural child actor fashion or something.but nope-they're alive!

vicky lawson aka v.i.c.i. and her puffy bangs.

she's now a nurse in boulder and looks pretty normal.

despite the rumors from the 90s jamie did not grow up to be billy corgan from smashing pumpkins.though i have to admit that would have been pretty hilarious (though not all that far fetched considering jimmy from degrassi grew up to be drake).

i can't figure out what he's doing now but it's not acting.apparently he golfs a lot.here's him now.

harriett was the annoying neighbor who was totally in love with jamie.what a creepster.and those 80s bowl bangs! yeesh!

she's now an acting teacher in connecticut.here's what she looks like now.

silver fox

sure he is like the same age as my dad but roger sterling from mad men aka john slattery is kind of reeeaaaallly sexy. a total silver fox.

am i wrong here?

check out the young john slattery. hubba hubba.

and here's his high school yearbook photo.
